All development programmes and investments should be disaster risk sensitive.

Those efforts involve linking climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, as well as ensuring that implementation of the Millennium Development Goals supports disaster risk reduction.

The review stresses the importance of disaster risk reduction being underpinned by a more pro active approach to informing, motivating and involving people in all aspects of disaster risk reduction in their own local communities.

Relevant United Nations organizations and donor Governments should strengthen the capacity of disaster prone countries in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and post disaster recovery within a disaster risk reduction framework, by supporting relevant initiatives in this field.
