The Board was informed that an IMIS disaster recovery task force is developing a comprehensive disaster recovery plan which will also include regular back up procedures for disaster recovery this task force would also examine the LAN disaster recovery plan.

Comment by the Administration. UNRWA recovery plans for most ICT systems exist but should be part of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan.

The Puebla Panama Plan included a natural disaster prevention and mitigation initiative, which incorporated risk management considerations in projects in all sectors.

(g) Development of a joint OAS United Nations disaster management plan that sets out policies, assets, capabilities, responsibilities and areas of collaboration

Specifically, the 57th WMO Executive Council approved an organization wide coordination framework and a detailed implementation plan for the multihazard approach of the organization to disaster reduction, led by its Natural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Programme.

30. The success of the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction would depend on the implementation of the Plan of Action adopted by the World Conference on Natural Disaster Reduction, held at Yokohama in May 1994.

The Yokohama Strategy for a Safer World Guidelines for Natural Disaster Prevention, Preparedness and Mitigation and its Plan of Action ( Yokohama Strategy ), adopted in 1994, provides landmark guidance on reducing disaster risk and the impacts of disasters.

The National Institute for Disaster Management should also be strengthened in order to enable it to transcend the emergency planning stage and embark on the task of coordination with a view to preparing a national disaster management plan.

Such analyses have been used by WFP and other United Nations entities to plan and implement relief operations, as well as disaster reduction activities.

The establishment of a national disaster management plan was essential in order to provide a reference framework for all the agencies participating in risk management.

(a) Enhancement of disaster preparedness and management of disaster risks.

A business continuity plan (BCP) includes planning for non IT related aspects such as key personnel, facilities, crisis communication and reputation protection, and should refer to the disaster recovery plan (DRP) for IT related infrastructure recovery continuity.

(e) To increase the reliability and availability of appropriate disaster related information to the public and disaster management agencies in all regions, as set out in relevant provisions of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development.

Similarly, the Yokohama Strategy and Plan of Action which issued from the World Conference on Natural Disaster Reduction constitute a clear reflection of our collective determination to develop and strengthen our existing capacity for natural disaster prevention, reduction, preparedness and mitigation.

(d) The critical importance of disaster preparedness and disaster management training.

In paragraph 220 of the report, UNRWA agreed with the Board's recommendation that it implement adequate back up procedures as part of a disaster recovery plan.
