Such a dialogue helps to develop understanding and tolerance, while strengthening friendship among peoples amidst the multiplicity of their religions, faiths, cultures and languages.

35. Mr. DUBČEK (Slovakia) welcomed the renewal of the dialogue on strengthening international economic cooperation for development through partnership and said he hoped that the inclusion of the economies in transition in that dialogue would benefit the whole world community.

Such dialogue should aim, inter alia, at strengthening confidence among States and contributing to widening support for international cooperation at this field.

The dialogue focused on several major themes strengthening the Resident Coordinator system programme alignment the role of regional structures and sector programmes and national capacity development.

1.64 The emphasis would be on strengthening overall policy dialogue, deepening collaboration at the country level around existing programming instruments and reaching agreement on financial mechanisms.

This should be pursued in accordance with General Assembly resolution 48 165 on the renewal of the dialogue on strengthening economic cooperation for development through partnership.

27. The demise of the cold war had opened up new prospects for more constructive dialogue and a genuine partnership for strengthening international cooperation for development.

Welcoming the adoption of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Central America, which should result in the conclusion of future agreements strengthening the San José Dialogue process and expanding it to, inter alia, economic areas, migration and the campaign against international terrorism,
