Advocating the implementation of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics in countries

The Statistics Division will continue its efforts to promote the adoption of the principles and related practices.

7. We hope to add some elements to the text of fundamental principles to accurately reflect the characteristics of official statistics, such as the definition of official statistics, the role of official statistics in coordinating national statistics through standards, methodology and classifications, and the importance of statistical legislation.

Those efforts are integrally linked with the Division's continuing mandate to promote the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.

(b) Comply with internationally accepted norms to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms and ethical principles of statistics.

It mandated a drafting group3 to develop proposals for a set of principles and good practices, and to use the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics as a reference framework.
