As a member of the Judicial Service Commission, major responsibilities are the appointment and discipline of members of the Judiciary.

The legal system in Namibia consists of the Supreme Court, High Court and Lower Courts and the Judicial Service Commission.

For these persons, the Commission recommends that they be dismissed from the civil service or judicial posts they currently occupy.

The Working Group noted that the establishment of a Judicial Service Commission went a long way towards creating and maintaining an Independent Judiciary.

92. In the framework of the reforms of the system of administration of justice proposed in the peace agreements, the Legislative Assembly has amended the Career Judicial Service Act to bring it into line with the principles underlying the constitutional reform and to define the administrative structure of the career judicial service.

This Court consists of a Chairman, Deputy Chairpersons, all of whom are appointed by the President on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission.
