Equally necessary are institutions that mediate the goals of social equity and environmental sustainability.

We stress that environmental sustainability is key to meeting all the other Millennium Development Goals.

The report provides a blueprint for actions required to meet the Millennium Development Goals and recognizes the importance of environmental sustainability as a necessary condition for meeting these goals.

The centrality of the relationship between the environmental sustainability and development has been eloquently summed up in the Millennium Projects Task Force report on environmental sustainability, which that states quite simply, environmental sustainability is the foundation upon which achieving all the other Millennium Development Goals must be built .

The sustainability of cities, highlighted by the slum target of the Millennium Development Goals, has become a key challenge for the international community.

International security also depends upon social development, the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), environmental sustainability and the promotion of international trade.

(d) urge the international financial institutions and developed country creditors to relate debt sustainability criteria directly to the financing requirements for achieving the internationally agreed development goals including the MDGs and other development goals

The ministers had highlighted the failure to operationalize the link between environmental sustainability and the Goals, recommending systematic integration of environmental sustainability considerations into all national poverty reduction strategies, United Nations development assistance frameworks and national development plans.

Our countries have been supporting the Commission apos s efforts to promote specific activities likely to attain the goals set with regard to sustainability.

The transition to sustainability will depend crucially on an international economy that supports key environment and development goals, effective steps against poverty (particularly in developing countries), changes in consumption patterns and measures to ensure compatibility between demographic dynamics and sustainability.

The United Nations Millennium Development Goals set ambitious targets for lowering poverty, improving health and nutrition, expanding education, increasing gender equality, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

Debt relief and debt sustainability were also issues that needed to be addressed as soon as possible in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

Whereas the role of markets is critical, it needs to be seen within the context of broader societal goals of social equity and environmental sustainability.

Ministers and Government Representatives also reaffirm their commitment to achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, in particular the goals to halve the proportion of people living in extreme poverty and to achieve environmental sustainability by 2015.

The more closely NGOs and States parties worked together, the more likely it was that they would achieve their common goals of peace, security and sustainability.

This includes joint projects in Kenya, Rwanda and the United Republic of Tanzania Cooperation with UNDP on the implementation of Millennium Development Goal 7 and other Goals where environmental sustainability could make a significant contribution to achieving the Goals.

Rather than focusing solely on income, sustainable development encourages cities, countries, and the world to focus simultaneously on three goals economic prosperity, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
