(b) Religious rights of persons in detention

Individuals held in remand detention should be segregated from convicted persons.

There are absolutely no detention camps, prisons or other places of detention, missing persons or arbitrarily or illegally detained persons in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

It wishes to receive statistical data, disaggregated by nationality and length of detention, relating to persons held under such detention, including in offshore detention centres.

Category D is for persons held in preventive detention in connection with political offences and persons convicted of political offences.

They also asked how many persons were detained in the country apos s prisons or held in administrative detention and whether measures were envisaged to place a time limit on the length of pre trial detention.

The State party should guarantee the right of persons in police custody to have access to a lawyer in the initial hours of detention, to inform their family members of their detention and to be informed of their rights.

C. Children in detention

109. Regarding article 11 of the Convention, the representative explained that prohibition of access to persons being held in detention applied to members of the family and other persons, not to defence counsel.

(b) Access to all information referring to the treatment of those persons as well as their conditions of detention

The source adds that the detention of these persons is arbitrary because it is devoid of any legal basis.

The Committee is also concerned that socio educative measures are not frequently applied and therefore, as a result, a large number of persons below age 18 are in detention, and at the very poor conditions of detention.
