International standards

Nuclear power is cost effective and, if generated in accordance with international safety standards, can be an environmentally sound option.

We have participated actively in meetings of the Technical Committee held to prepare and finalize the International Basic Safety Standards.

Unfortunately, many of these workplaces are perilous and do not conform with international and national labour standards for health and safety.

The strong relationship between the Agency's operational safety standards and its safety review services has been an important element in evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of the standards.

The most illustrative examples of NTBs include plant and animal health standards, food safety standards, environmental certification and other similar export quality standards.

Applicable international standards

The Romanian Government wishes to reaffirm its determination to complete the Cernavoda nuclear power plant while strictly complying with international safety standards.

Safety and other standards for bunk beds are specified by the European Committee for Standardization standard BS EN 747 1 2007 ASTM International standard ASTM F1427 07 Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand standard AS NZS 4220 2003 International Organization for Standardization standard ISO 9098 1 1994.

Harmonization with International Laws and Standards

International standards, including technical standards and sanitary and phytosanitary standards, can also pose an additional challenge to developing countries with regard to accessing international markets.

Technical standards, including standards at the international level, are also being discussed (including definitional questions of technical and international standards, and how harmonization with international standards should be linked to the fulfilment of the objectives of VI.4).

Such partnerships would enable those countries to have equitable access to international markets and allow for the implementation of international transport safety rules and environmental standards within an international trading system and international economy that took account of their special situation.

Its radiation risk assessments provide the scientific foundation used by the International Commission on Radiological Protection in developing its recommendations for radiation protection and by the International Atomic Energy Agency in formulating its Basic Safety Standards for the protection of people and the safety of radiation sources.

The Department of Safety and Security will establish common security policies and standards for the Organization.
