The overall ratio of debt servicing to export earnings was almost 30 per cent.

None the less, although it had diminished, the debt to export ratio remained high, and the debt servicing ratio remained higher than that of other regions.

Its debt was three times as large as its exports and its debt servicing ratio was over 40 per cent.

In 2004 the ratio of debt servicing to exports was 10.0 per cent (see figure below).

Their debt to export ratio had been 20 per cent in 1991 and their development process had been impeded by the outflow of resources for debt servicing.

With the Italian debt GDP ratio currently at roughly 106 , lower borrowing costs reduced the public debt ratio by more than eight percentage points.
