Bilateral investment treaties of the United States, Japan and Canada did not prohibit a set of performance requirements, such as export requirements, employment requirements for local workers, technology transfer requirements and the like, so that investment recipient countries could maintain some policy space.

African countries had difficulties in adjusting to environmental and environment related food safety requirements in their key export markets.

The Bulgarian Government has established a national system of nuclear related export controls which meets the new international requirements.
