26. The hakes are the most important demersal fish stocks in the South West Atlantic.

The combined catches of the major demersal species are around 425,000 metric tons per year.

Demersal high seas resources are found principally on straddling continental shelves and slopes, and around sea mounts.

Demersal straddling stocks are found and are problematic in the Gulf of Lions and the Gulf of Gabes.
