Particular urgency has been acquired by questions concerning the improvement of the structure of the United Nations, which include rationalizing its principal organs, enhancing their effectiveness and transparency and coordinating decision making.

At the request of the 16th meeting of the Programme Coordinating Board, and to provide more stringent performance monitoring and accountability, UNAIDS is simplifying the 2006 2007 unified budget and work structure.

All United Nations agencies, in accordance with commitments made at the Advisory Committee for the Coordination of Information Systems should work towards making that Committee an effective structure for coordinating emergency programmes.

The Committee will continue to seek to structure these meetings for maximum usefulness and to cooperate with coordinating committees for non governmental organizations with a view to developing effective follow up mechanisms.
