The Commission has as its objective the promotion of the progressive development of international law and its codification.

The Codification Division participates in the electronic dissemination of information regarding United Nations work on the codification and progressive development of international law, as well as on some aspects regarding its application.

The Convention reflects the significant progress achieved in the codification and progressive development of international law relating to the sea.

Mr. Lammers (Netherlands) said his delegation attached great importance to the codification and progressive development of the rules of international law governing diplomatic protection.
