The report of the Secretary General recognizes that globalization has increased social inequality.

The Secretary General has proposed another reform in the Economic and Social Council.

The Secretary General has clearly identified girls' education as an urgent social development priority.

The Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs responded to questions and comments.

The Executive Secretary reports to the Secretary General on administrative and financial matters through the Under Secretary General for Management and on substantive matters through the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs.

Noting that the Executive Secretary consulted with the Under Secretary General for Management and the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs at United Nations Headquarters on this matter,

Therefore, OIOS was recommending that the Secretary General should propose to the Economic and Social Council that it assign a supervisory administrative role to the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs or the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

We share the view of the Secretary General that many conflicts have economic and social origins.
