Sweden has ratified the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.

An audit of fuel management at UNMIL confirmed the results of the Mission's own investigation, which resulted in the dismissal of national staff involved in pilfering fuel.

The relevant national authorities are now studying the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.

The Board recognizes the actions taken by the Mission to address the problems with regard to fuel management.

Operative paragraph 8 of the draft resolution refers to the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.

It had also taken further steps to mitigate risks and to improve the overall management of fuel in peacekeeping missions in order to prevent the recurrence of fuel misappropriation and fraud.

(e) The requisition, management, collection, delivery and distribution of fuel should be standardized in accordance with standard operating procedures.
