The walls of the epidermal cells of the above ground parts of plants contain cutin, and are covered with a cuticle.

Larvae go through four moreinstars, and in each moult there is separation of the older cuticle but no discarding ( apolysis without ecdysis ), leading to multiple layers being formed around the larvae.
