As the United Nations prepares to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, the Vietnamese people are looking forward enthusiastically to commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh apos s solemn declaration to the entire world of the birth of an independent, free and democratic Viet Nam.

The police took the monks into the courtyard of the police station and searched the vehicle. They then searched the monks, confiscating Thich Quang Do's mobile phone. They then separated the monks, taking them to different places for interrogation. Thich Quang Do was taken to Ho Chi Minh City.

Furthermore, while the Government claims that Thich Quang Do and Thich Huyen Quang are not subject to administrative surveillance or detention, both monks were indeed sentenced verbally to administrative detention by the local Security Police and People's Committee officials in Binh Dinh Province and Ho Chi Minh City, respectively, on 9 October 2003.

Mr. Le Luong Minh (Viet Nam) It is my great honour to participate on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation in the joint debate today on two important agenda items relating to the report of the Security Council and the question of equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Council and other related matters.

Credits to that achievement should go to the State under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, which is always aware that implementing equality between men and women is an extremely difficult and complex task, since man preferences to woman behaviour has been seen for thousands of years and embedded in the mind of every individual, every family from all walks of life .
