Also at the same meeting, Mr. Arjun Sengupta, independent expert on the question of human rights and extreme poverty, introduced his report (E CN.4 2005 49).

In preparation for the Working Group on the Right to Development (25 February 8 March 2002), FI released the publication, Summaries Prepared by Franciscans International of the Four Reports of the Independent Expert on the Right to Development, Mr. Arjun Sengupta.

Arjun K. Sengupta noted that there was plenty of evidence suggesting that access to education and health led to a reduction of poverty, he also highlighted the fact that the United Nations Millennium Declaration made reference to international assistance and the right to development.

Arjun K. Sengupta, United Nations independent expert on the question of human rights and extreme poverty, noted that the theme of the panel should be further defined as growth with accountability in a human rights framework , as accountability and growth acquired particular meanings in a human rights framework.
