When did we originate as a species?

You are a fraud, a disgrace to our class.

I want you to imagine that this particular grouping of cells is central to the evolution of our species and the continuation of the human race.

I lost my faith in our species.

It is well within our power to destroy our civilization and perhaps our species as well.

Hunger is a scourge of our own making inflicted on our own kind.

And so some time around 200,000 years ago, our species confronted this crisis.

It is well within our power to destroy our civilization and perhaps our species as well.

Oh, don't know when they're more unpleasant, when they're dead or when they're guzzling our rations.

And that is how and why did this remarkable trait evolve, and why did it evolve only in our species?

You know, culture was born of the imagination, and the imagination the imagination as we know it came into being when our species descended from our progenitor, Homo erectus, and, infused with consciousness, began a journey that would carry it to every corner of the habitable world.

Our species can make stuff, therefore we prospered in a way that no other species has.

And this is why our species has prospered around the world while the rest of the animals sit behind bars in zoos, languishing.

The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to throw out their babies, so that they wouldn't stay alive.

The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

And once we understand that we're connected to the environment, we see that the survival of our species depends on the survival of the planet.

In our species, the alpha males define reality, and force the rest of the pack to accept that reality and follow the rules.

But when our species arose about 200,000 years ago, sometime after that we quickly walked out of Africa and spread around the entire world, occupying nearly every habitat on Earth.

But these are just kind of the standard genes that have nothing to do with our gender.

I think our species, the species of human beings is coming to a place where we are deciding about ourselves.

Living in your genome is the history of our species, and you as an individual human being, where you're from, going back thousands and thousands and thousands of years, and that's now starting to be understood.

But in fact, it turns out that some time around 200,000 years ago, when our species first arose and acquired social learning, that this was really the beginning of our story, not the end of our story.

And this is why our species has prospered around the world while the rest of the animals sit behind bars in zoos, languishing.

We delude ourselves into thinking that these problems are the creation of our nation, government, religion or race, but this is not so.

The thing that mauls and mutilates our race not killing us outright, but letting us live on with half a heart and half a lung.

And all because we believe that our species is so more special, so more superior than the other ones, that we're the only ones that count, and we're the only ones that matter.

Living in your genome is the history of our species, and you as an individual human being, where you're from, going back thousands and thousands and thousands of years, and that's now starting to be understood.

A state of deep slumber prevents the bulk of our species deal, to consciousness and action, vital emergency which collectively put our home cosmic, planet Earth.

We've also acquired compassion for others, love for our children, the desire to learn from History and experience, and a great, soaring, passionate intelligence, the clear tools for our continued survival and prosperity.

But when our species arose about 200,000 years ago, sometime after that we quickly walked out of Africa and spread around the entire world, occupying nearly every habitat on Earth.

And so if language really is the solution to the crisis of visual theft, if language really is the conduit of our cooperation, the technology that our species derived to promote the free flow and exchange of ideas, in our modern world, we confront a question.

You know, culture was born of the imagination, and the imagination the imagination as we know it came into being when our species descended from our progenitor, Homo erectus, and, infused with consciousness, began a journey that would carry it to every corner of the habitable world.

If we do spring from a common source, how did we come to occupy every corner of the globe, and in the process generate all of this diversity, the different ways of life, the different appearances, the different languages around the world?

But in fact, it turns out that some time around 200,000 years ago, when our species first arose and acquired social learning, that this was really the beginning of our story, not the end of our story.

Given that no human species other than our own survives (Homo floresiensis disappeared about 18,000 years ago), the prospects for harmonious coexistence among future human species are not reassuring.

Which aspects of our nature will prevail, is uncertain, particularly when our visions and prospects, or bounds, are one small part of the small Planet Earth.

If we do spring from a common source, how did we come to occupy every corner of the globe, and in the process generate all of this diversity, the different ways of life, the different appearances, the different languages around the world?

Given that no human species other than our own survives (Homo floresiensis disappeared about 18,000 years ago), the prospects for harmonious coexistence among future human species are not reassuring. In the worst case, the human genetic lineage itself could be wiped out by inter species conflict.
